Your Opportunity:
We have an exciting position for a dependable and motivated General Cover Supervisor to support a busy secondary school in Thetford on a temporary contract, available for an immediate start.
In this critical role, you will be responsible for overseeing various classes across the 11-16 age range (KS3 and KS4) during the short-term absence of teaching staff. Your central mandate is to guarantee that all students remain focused on the work provided by the absent teacher and that a positive and controlled atmosphere is maintained. This is a supervisory role; planning and marking are not required. You will be instrumental in upholding school discipline and ensuring minimal disruption to the student learning schedule.
Core Functions
- Supervise scheduled lessons across a variety of subjects, actively managing student engagement with the pre-set work.
- Rigorously implement the school's behaviour management policy, ensuring classrooms are orderly and conducive to learning.
- Provide clear, concise instructions regarding the assigned tasks, addressing any student misunderstanding of the directions.
- Monitor student activities throughout the lesson, intervene quickly to manage behaviour, and deal with minor issues.
- Document and report any serious or persistent breaches of conduct to the relevant departmental or senior staff members.
- Ensure all duties are carried out in full compliance with school safety and safeguarding regulations.
Key Candidate Qualities
- Essential: Demonstrated ability and confidence in supervising and leading large groups of secondary students (KS3/KS4).
- Essential: Proven track record in effective behaviour management and strong classroom presence (e.g., from teaching, coaching, or corporate training roles).
- Preferred: A strong academic background (e.g., degree or relevant qualifications) that supports working across different curriculum areas.
- Highly reliable, punctual, and possess excellent organisational skills to manage a varied daily timetable.
- Must be highly adaptable, quick-thinking, and possess the resilience needed for a fast-paced school environment.
- Must currently hold an Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or be prepared to apply for one without delay.
