This is a vital role focused on providing continuity in the crucial developmental stage of primary education. You will be responsible for providing a structured, positive, and consistent learning environment, delivering pre-planned lessons, and expertly managing the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Deliver the full Key Stage 1 National Curriculum content, ensuring smooth transitions between subjects and maintaining a positive learning pace.
Literacy & Phonics: Confidently and competently lead small-group and whole-class sessions in early literacy, with a particular focus on established phonics programmes and the transition to independent reading.
Classroom Management: Utilise firm but fair behaviour management strategies suited for KS1 pupils, maintaining a safe and stimulating environment that encourages focus and positive behaviour.
Assessment & Feedback: Monitor pupils' engagement and progress throughout the session, accurately tracking attainment (especially in core subjects) and providing concise feedback to the class teacher.
Adaptability: Quickly integrate into different school environments, upholding each school's individual ethos and policies.
Safeguarding: Maintain a rigorous, non-negotiable commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils.
Essential Candidate Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): You must hold Qualified Teacher Status relevant to the UK.
Experience: Recent and demonstrated experience teaching within Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and/or 2). Strong knowledge of phonics delivery is highly advantageous.
DBS: A current, clear Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one immediately through Randstad).
