About the Role
We are looking to recruit a reliable and self-motivated Maintenance Technician to join our Building Services team. This role is essential for ensuring that our housing and environment are kept in excellent condition through a high-quality, cost-effective repairs service. The post holder will be responsible for undertaking reactive, planned, and cyclical maintenance tasks.
As a Maintenance Technician, you will be a key representative of the Council, working diligently to complete repairs to the highest industry standard. This is a hands-on role that requires a flexible, multi-skilled approach and the ability to work collaboratively to meet customer needs and deadlines.
Main Responsibilities
... - Maintenance and Repairs: Undertake all maintenance work to an acceptable industry standard and in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Inspection and Diagnosis: Pre-inspect and diagnose repair requirements using a Schedule of Rates to identify the necessary resources, materials, and plant.
- Resource Management: Assist with the efficient use of the department's resources, including materials, plant, and imprest stock systems.
- Health and Safety: Adhere strictly to all Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and relevant Health and Safety legislation. You will conduct daily safety checks of your allocated vehicle and plant.
- Record Keeping: Accurately record all work undertaken, including working time, materials used, and relevant Schedule of Rates codes.
- Flexibility and Development: Be flexible in your duties and provide a multi-skilled service, sometimes outside of your recognized trade. You will be expected to attend training initiatives and assist in the training and mentoring of colleagues and apprentices.
What We're Looking For

- Has a recognised trade background as a bricklayer, carpenter, plumber, or similar skilled role.
- Is flexible in their approach, willing to develop multi-skilled capabilities and work unsociable hours when needed.
- Has a strong understanding of Health and Safety legislation and is committed to safe working practices.
- Is reliable and productive, with a track record of meeting job completion deadlines and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Is a team player who can assist in the training and development of others.
- Is comfortable with using technology and maintaining all associated systems of work.
