Bury St Edmunds
Are you ready to lead the conversation on the big questions of life, ethics, and belief in a school that values diverse perspectives?
Can you navigate the complexities of global faiths and modern moral dilemmas, inspiring students to think critically, debate respectfully, and develop a deep understanding of the world around them?
We are seeking a dedicated Qualified Religious Education Teacher to join our partner Secondary School in Bury St Edmunds. This is a full-time, long-term role starting ASAP perfect for a specialist who can deliver high-impact lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. Due to the school's unique location on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, being a driver with access to a vehicle is highly recommended, as public transport links are limited.
Your Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery: Plan and teach engaging R.E. lessons that cover major world religions, philosophy of religion, and applied ethics (e.g., medical ethics, social justice, and animal rights).
- Debate & Dialogue: Facilitate safe, inclusive classroom discussions where students can explore sensitive topics and develop their own reasoned viewpoints.
- Examination Success: Prepare GCSE and A-Level cohorts for their assessments (AQA/OCR/Edexcel), focusing on high-level evaluation and the ability to compare diverse theological perspectives.
- Holistic Development: Support the school's SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual, and Cultural) provision, helping students understand their role as global citizens in a multicultural society.
- Resource Innovation: Create modern, multimedia resources that bring ancient texts and contemporary moral issues to life for a 21st-century classroom.
- Assessment & Feedback: Use detailed marking and feedback to help students refine their essay-writing skills and mastery of specialist terminology.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is a mandatory requirement for this position.
- Subject Expertise: A degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy, or a related field, with a strong grasp of the National Curriculum.
- Transport: Ideally, you are a driver with your own transport, as the school's location makes commuting via bus or train difficult.
- Inspirational Pedagogy: The ability to make philosophical concepts accessible and relevant to students of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
