We are seeking a Science Technician to support and maintain high standards of education within the science department. You will be working closely with the team and liaising directly with the Senior Science Technician. Formal qualifications in Science and laboratory experience are an advantage as well as a good understanding of Chemistry. Apply now to join us as soon as possible. This will be a part time role, 27 hours a week, term-time only.
Your role as a Science Technician will include:
- Preparing and organising equipment efficiently for lessons.
- Cleaning laboratories and equipment post-lesson and managing any chemical spills.
- Ensuring the safe storage and usage of laboratory equipment.
- Preparing lesson materials across all Science areas.
- Collaborating with the Senior Science Technician on curriculum needs.
- Coordinating with building services staff on potential health and safety hazards.
- Ensuring pupil safety within the curriculum area.
- Maintaining legal records of hazardous materials.
- Disposing of waste chemicals and biological material responsibly
- Inspecting materials before and after lessons.
- Informing teachers of any apparatus issues.
We are looking for someone with the below skills:
- Good understanding of basic chemistry including preparation of solutions at various concentrations, and knowledge of acids, alkalis, and buffers.
- Ability to set up simple electrical circuits, including those with capacitors, thermistors, diodes, and LDRs.
- Skilled in demonstrating the use of chemistry apparatus like distillation and refluxing equipment, and melting point determination.
- Proficient in working safely with hazardous chemicals and ensuring electrical safety of equipment.
- Proficient ICT skills, especially with Microsoft Word and general maintenance of laboratory equipment such as burettes, quickfit apparatus, balances, and water baths.
- Enhanced DBS on update service, or willingness to obtain one
- Candidate should be eligible to work in UK (Essential)
- Ability to use own initiative and work as part of a team
- Able to work in a highly pressured environment to meet demands and deadlines
- Professional experience in a relevant field, supported by 2 recent professional references.
