Bury St Edmunds
Are you a motivated individual ready to help Secondary students bridge the gap between "I can't" and "I've got this"?
Do you have the energy to navigate a busy school day and the communication skills to build rapport with teenagers from all walks of life?
We are seeking a proactive Teaching Assistant to join a wonderful Secondary School on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds. This is a full-time, long-term role where you will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring they stay engaged and on track with their learning. Due to the school's rural location, being a driver with access to a vehicle is essential, as public transport links do not align with school hours.
Your Responsibilities
- Academic Mentoring: Work with small groups or 1:1 within the classroom to re-explain complex concepts in core subjects like English, Maths, and Science.
- Inclusion Advocacy: Support students with additional needs (SEND), ensuring they can access the same curriculum as their peers through modified tasks or visual aids.
- Behaviour for Learning: Act as a positive role model, using subtle de-escalation and encouragement to keep students focused and minimise disruptions in the classroom.
- Literacy & Numeracy Intervention: Lead targeted "catch-up" sessions for students who need extra help reaching their age-related expectations.
- Examination Support: Act as a scribe or reader during mock and final exams, ensuring students with access arrangements are fully supported.
- Teacher Partnership: Collaborate with Subject Teachers to prepare resources and maintain an organised, high-energy learning environment.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Energy: The ability to keep pace with the demands of a secondary school environment and stay positive throughout the day.
- Strong Literacy & Numeracy: Confidence in supporting the secondary curriculum (GCSE level) is vital for this role.
- Reliable Transport: Since the school is not feasible via public transport, you must be a driver with a dependable way to get to work.
- Adaptable Communication: The "social IQ" to speak the language of teenagers-knowing when to be firm and when to be a supportive listener.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
Why Choose Randstad?
- Competitive PAYE Rates: £95 - £110 per day
- Stability: The security of a consistent, full-time schedule in a well-regarded partner school.
- Professional Growth: Access free, certified training in Safeguarding, De-escalation, and SEN Awareness.
- Personal Support: A dedicated consultant (Neeraj) who will act as your advocate and guide you through your placement.
- Referral Bonus: Earn a £300 voucher for every friend or colleague you successfully refer to the Randstad family!
