As a SEND Instructor, you will take full responsibility for a class group, focusing on students with Complex Needs, ASD, or SEMH. You will lead a team of Teaching Assistants to create a stable, nurturing, and high-achieving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Instructional Lead: Plan and deliver engaging, practical, and sensory-based lessons adapted to individual ability levels.
- Classroom Management: Oversee the daily routine of the classroom, ensuring a safe and structured environment for all learners.
- Progress Tracking: Use specialised assessment frameworks to monitor social, emotional, and academic development.
- Team Coordination: Manage and deploy Classroom Assistants effectively to support 1:1 and small group interventions.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: Significant experience working in a SEND setting (Special School, PRU, or Alternative Provision).
- Expertise: Deep understanding of non-verbal communication tools (e.g., PECS, Makaton) or de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach/Step On).
- Independence: The ability to work autonomously, taking ownership of lesson planning and student outcomes.
- Resilience: A calm, patient demeanor and the ability to build rapport with students who face significant barriers to learning.
