Roles and Responsibilities
- Support individual students or small groups in the classroom, focusing on their specific learning and emotional needs.
- Assist in the preparation and adaptation of learning materials to make them accessible to students with SEND.
- Implement specific intervention strategies, under the direction of the class teacher/SENCO, such as phonics, social skills, or sensory breaks.
- Help manage challenging behaviour, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Assist with personal care needs (where required and appropriate), maintaining dignity and professionalism.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing clear feedback to teachers and the SENCO.
- Foster student independence, self-esteem, and social development.
- Liaise effectively with teachers, parents, and external professionals, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
What We're Looking For
- A genuine passion for working with children and supporting those with SEND.
- Proven experience working with children, preferably in an educational or care setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and effectively.
- A resilient, patient, and flexible approach to working in a dynamic school environment.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team, but also to show initiative and work independently.
- A relevant Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential if you have extensive experience.
- A firm commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
