We are currently seeking a dedicated, resilient, and empathetic SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive school team in Chelmsford.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential in an inclusive environment.
The Role
As a SEND LSA, no two days will be the same. You will work closely with the class teacher and the SENCO to provide tailored support to students.
... - One-to-One Support: Working individually with students who have EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).
- Needs Supported: Supporting students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, or learning difficulties.
- Classroom Assistance: helping to adapt lessons and resources to make the curriculum accessible.
- Emotional Support: helping students regulate their emotions and build social skills.
- Progress Tracking: assisting with recording student progress and behavioural observations.
About You
You do not necessarily need a formal teaching qualification, but the right personality is essential. We are looking for:
- Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people (in schools, youth work, or care settings) is highly desirable. Experience with SEND is a distinct advantage.
- Attributes: Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for inclusive education.
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students quickly.
- Proactive: The ability to use your initiative to de-escalate challenging situations.
- Compliance: You must hold an enhanced DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
