SEND Learning Support Assistant - Thorrington Area

This role is perfect for a local resident or someone based in Colchester/Tendring who wants to work in a setting where community and inclusion are at the heart of everything. You will be a key part of a team helping students with diverse needs reach their full academic and social potential.

The Role

• Targeted Support: Assist students with ASD, ADHD, or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs on a 1:1 or small-group basis.
• Classroom Integration: Help students navigate the secondary school environment, ensuring they feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
• Inclusive Literacy & Numeracy: Work alongside teachers to modify resources, making the curriculum accessible for students with lower attainment levels.
• Positive Mentoring: Act as a role model, helping students develop the emotional resilience and social skills needed for their teenage years.

The Requirements

• Experience: Previous experience supporting children (in schools, sports coaching, or care) is highly beneficial.
• Personality: We are looking for someone with a patient, firm-but-fair, and empathetic approach.
• Communication: Ability to work effectively with teachers, parents, and the school's SENCO.
• DBS: Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
• Transport: As Thorrington is a rural village, having your own transport is recommended, though it is well-connected to nearby Brightlingsea and Great Bentley.
