Randstad Student Support is currently recruiting Specialist One-to-One Study Skills Support Workers to work with autistic students studying at the University of Reading. This role is due to begin at the start of the new academic year (from 1st September 2024) and offers a hybrid working pattern. All successful candidates must be able to travel to the University of Reading and provide both in-person and online support, depending on student preferences.
As a Specialist One-to-One Study Skills Support Worker, you will deliver individualised academic support to autistic students. Your work will involve creating a tailored learning plan and helping students develop their independence and confidence in their studies. You will support students to build independence and confidence in their learning, develop time management and organisational skills, formulate action plans to manage academic tasks, improve research techniques and use a range of academic sources, understand and apply referencing techniques appropriately, and strengthen reading comprehension and academic writing skills.
Key responsibilities include providing structured, one-to-one study skills support based on each student's individual needs, maintaining a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and safeguarding awareness, working closely with Randstad to report student progress and any concerns, and delivering support both face-to-face on campus and remotely via online platforms.
As this is a Specialist DSA-funded role, you must meet the qualification criteria as set out by the Department for Education (DfE). You must hold an undergraduate degree (Level 6 or above), a recognised teaching qualification, and have completed extensive, recent training in adult autism. Accepted autism training includes either the 6 National Autistic Society Modules (Non-Medical Helper package) or The Optimum Training Course: Autism and ADHD in Higher Education. You can find the full list of accepted qualifications and training routes on pages 12-16 of the DfE framework document.
Desirable skills and experience include prior experience working with autistic students or clients, strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to support students in building their academic strengths, good organisational and time-management skills, reliability and professionalism, and the capacity to manage a caseload of students independently.
In return, we offer flexible working hours where you choose your own schedule, £28 per hour plus £3.38 holiday pay, weekly pay through PAYE, and the opportunity to work with the UK's leading DSA provider. You'll also benefit from our online timesheet system for quick approvals, free access to CPD and e-learning resources, regular support worker forums and best practice sessions, a free Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), access to a staff discounts hub, a workplace pension scheme, statutory leave entitlements (sick, maternity, paternity, adoption), and our refer-a-friend scheme with unlimited earning potential.
Our support workers say: "Randstad is a great place to work - allowing independence, freedom and creativity in the way I work." "My experience with Randstad has been phenomenal." "Everyone I have spoken to has been incredibly helpful and friendly." "I have a great work-life balance."
