Randstad Education is seeking a dynamic Teacher of Food Technology to join a creative and well-equipped department in Benfleet.

This role is about more than just recipes; it's about teaching students the science of nutrition, the importance of food provenance, and the life skills required to cook healthily and sustainably. You will lead practical and theory-based lessons, inspiring students to explore the diverse world of food preparation and nutrition.

Key Responsibilities

• Practical Instruction: Lead safe and engaging practical cooking sessions for KS3 and KS4, ensuring all health and safety protocols (HACCP) are strictly followed.
• Theory Delivery: Teach the GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition curriculum, covering topics such as food functions, chemical properties of ingredients, and balanced diets.
• Health & Safety: Maintain an impeccable standard of hygiene within the food rooms, overseeing the correct use of equipment and storage of ingredients.
• Curriculum Design: Create exciting projects that challenge students' technical skills, from basic knife skills to complex pastry work and presentation.
• Assessment: Grade practical outcomes and written coursework, providing feedback that helps students refine their techniques.

Requirements

• Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or a relevant degree with significant teaching experience.
• Specialist Knowledge: A deep understanding of food science, nutrition, and diverse culinary techniques.
• Health & Safety Certification: A current Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene certificate is highly desirable.
• Organisation: Exceptional classroom management and organisational skills to handle the logistics of setting up and clearing down practical lessons.
• Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service.
