Due to the large peak in demand for oil and gas boilers in the winter months, Bosch is required to increase their contingent headcount from c.150 workers up to c.280 workers for this period. Roles covered include production, logistics, packing and customer service. These hires must be brought in over a short period of time, regularly within a month, requiring 25+ heads to be hired a week across the manufacturing sites. The peak commences at the start of September annually, which is also the time locally based logistics companies (DHL, Yodel, Amazon etc.) also start their peak for Christmas.



Bosch additionally faces a challenge through a restricted pay rate, with competitors paying slightly more alongside a longer contract period. 

 

the solution.

Randstad engaged with Bosch at the end of their peak season in 2019 to assess the quality of the released workforce and establish which workers they would  ‘re-hire’ and seek to employ for the 2020 peak. 

To maintain commitment, throughout the summer months, we implemented newsletters and calls to have weekly and monthly touchpoints with these workers to update them on anything ‘Bosch’ - to maintain commitment from them to rejoin for the winter. Through these touchpoints, we gather information about their current temporary roles to forecast what percentage of people marked for rehire will likely accept the position in September. 

We implemented our proven sourcing techniques to recruit additional candidates through local organisations, including JobCentres and local job boards, to create shortlist candidates for each position. To ensure fulfilment, we will routinely source and screen 20% more candidates than required to create an excess candidate pool ready to be deployed to cover any urgent/short notice requirements. 

 

the results.

Through our processes, Bosch hired 65 workers back into blue-collar roles in the winter of 2019/20, 47 of which were re-hired (72%), reducing the required training time and cost for Bosch. We successfully built up to a peak of 260 workers in March 2020.
