the challenge.

A young man who was 15 years old with complex needs had recently experienced a deterioration in his mental wellbeing. He was living in a residential service that required additional support following a recent DOLs order preventing him from leaving the service. Unfortunately, this led to increased challenging behaviours; he started expressing himself through physical aggression, destruction of property, verbal aggression, absconding and taking unnecessary risks.

The service manager had raised concerns about how this impacted both him and the staffing team supporting him. On the 27th September 2022, Randstad was contacted by the Service Manager; he was referred by a colleague after Randstad was able to support a similar case through a tailored localised care package. We were advised that the existing care team required additional support to effectively manage his behaviours with immediate effect.

the goal.

To ensure the safety of this individual and the supporting staffing team.

the solution.

Randstad was able to support by mobilising a staffing team that took place within 2 days of the engagement.  Randstad engaged a staff team of 14 support workers to support on a 3:1 basis to meet the needs of the young person. The complex needs required the staffing team to have experience and training to manage behaviours effectively and safely.

the results.

Randstad was able to effectively manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours during the period of care.  They continued building relationships and introducing strategies and ideas that have helped the young person and the staffing team alike.

The young person was eventually placed in a long-term registered placement; the support offered by the Randstad staffing team in collaboration with the LA resulted in achieving positive outcomes for this young person supporting the transition to their new home.
