ensuring students
get the support they need.
Over recent years, universities have reported an ever-increasing number of students who are autistic and who require additional support, as well as those with ADHD. According to numerous pieces of research, the two conditions often co-exist and these students are often at risk of ‘burnout’ - therefore it is important to understand how best to support students with both Autism and ADHD.
Our guest speaker Dr. Emily Grossman was recently diagnosed, in her early 40s, as being autistic and having ADHD, and is now passionate about raising awareness about neurodiversity and changing stereotypes. Emily will share her personal experience of how a late diagnosis changed her life, how her autism and ADHD has impacted her successful professional career and academic achievements, as well as reflecting on what type of support would have been useful to her at university. She will offer insights into how those working in the student support sector could better support students who are autistic and have ADHD, with a particular emphasis on building self-esteem and preventing burnout.
