the challenge.
As part of a rapid expansion plan, Randstad Teachanywhere was appointed to support the recruitment for Harrow International Schools in China. With six new schools being launched between 2020/21 requiring in the region of 90 new hires in both 2020 and 2021.
the goal.
The group faced the challenge of recruiting the best talent in line with the educational philosophies in a relatively short time and in some volume and into a location that is not always first on the list for western expatriate teachers.
the solution.
Tailored recruitment events, including in-person interview weekends, ensuring that the talent presented matched the specific criteria requested by the group and ensuring the high-level quality of candidates in line with the expectations of a premier school group like Harrow. Randstad took responsibility for all advertising for candidate generation - taking out all of the heavy lifting for Harrow and utilising their large social media presence (over 116,000 followers on LinkedIn alone) and our popular website (2.2m page views), including a branded featured partner page for Harrow. A large amount of time was spent matching against academic requirements and ensuring an excellent cultural match for the school, country and city. An international move is as much about matching against job requirement criteria and quality as it is about ensuring the candidate will match culturally and settle in the location and stay, something international schools spend a lot of time and effort trying to ensure. Randstad also offered candidates and clients full support through the often challenging onboarding process (Visa application, COVID-19 challenges in 2020), giving the client peace of mind that their hires have remained fully committed throughout a particularly difficult year and ensuring minimal dropouts, which can sometimes severely impact the recruitment process. With 2020 pandemic challenges, switching to virtual weekend interview events in 2020 and improving the quality of candidates provided in this follow-up season of recruiting after a thorough review of the prior process and success highlighting Randstad Teachanywhere’s agility and solutions focussed approach to dealing with the ever-changing market conditions.
the results.
Randstad provided more than a third of the total required recruitment for August 2020 for Harrow International Schools' newly launching schools (38 hires for 2020/21 school year). Solidified an already strong working partnership and ensured that the school’s reputation for employing the best teaching talent in the world has been enhanced. The switch to virtual events in 2020 as part of the campaign for 2021 hires has improved not just the quality of an already high calibre pipeline of candidates but seen an increase in volume as it allows Randstad Teachanywhere to tap into its vast network of globally dispersed teaching talent meaning we have been able to present the best of the world’s teaching talent on offer and indicating a better than prior year result is likely allowing the schools full confidence in their hiring needs, so important, especially during the globally challenging times. Randstad Teachanywhere and Harrow’s successful partnership is a testament to the two-way relationship that has been nurtured to ensure that communication is open and ongoing, best practice is consistently reviewed and altered as required, and the end result is a very happy client who is receiving above and beyond the tailored solution they requested from the start.
