Peterborough
Are you a Qualified Teacher who excels in specialist settings but needs a professional schedule that finally gives you the work-life balance you deserve?
Do you have the expertise to walk into a new classroom, instantly decode a student's communication style, and deliver a lesson that is both accessible and inspiring?
We are seeking a versatile and highly skilled Ad-hoc SEN Teacher to support our partner SEN Schools across Peterborough. This is the perfect opportunity for a QTS holder who wants to stay in the heart of the classroom without the "take-home" stress of full-time planning, endless meetings, and data-tracking. You decide when you work; we provide the environment where your teaching skills can truly shine.
Your Responsibilities
- Rapid Instructional Pivot: Deliver pre-planned lessons or craft "on-the-spot" activities that align with the cognitive and sensory profiles of ASC, SLD, or MLD learners.
- Communication Leadership: Facilitate classroom engagement using Makaton, PECS, and visual aids, ensuring that every student-regardless of verbal ability-has a voice in your lesson.
- Positive Climate Management: Use your professional expertise to maintain a low-arousal, safe, and structured environment, leading the classroom support team in de-escalation and co-regulation.
- Team Empowerment: Direct and inspire a team of specialised Teaching Assistants for the day, ensuring they are effectively deployed for 1:1 and small-group interventions.
- Bespoke Learning Delivery: Whether leading a sensory science experiment or a functional life-skills session, you ensure every student experiences a genuine sense of achievement.
- Professional Handover: Provide clear, high-quality feedback for the permanent Class Teacher, ensuring a seamless transition and continuity of care for every pupil.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Essential. We welcome secondary, primary, or specialist-trained teachers who have a passion for neurodiversity.
- SEN Fluency: A strong understanding of various neurodiverse profiles and the ability to adapt your teaching style to meet students at their individual point of need.
- Resilient Leadership: A calm, authoritative, yet empathetic presence that can stabilise a classroom and inspire confidence in both students and support staff.
- Total Adaptability: The professional confidence to work across different age groups and ability levels with minimal notice.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one urgently through Randstad).
