Peterborough
Are you looking for a role where your adaptability is your greatest strength and every day offers a new chance to connect?
Do you have the energy to walk into a new classroom, build an immediate rapport with students, and provide the steady, calming support that neurodiverse learners need to thrive?
We are seeking versatile and enthusiastic Ad-hoc SEN Teaching Assistants to support our partner SEN Schools in Peterborough. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who needs a truly flexible work-life balance-whether you are a student, a former carer, or simply looking for variety-without losing the profound reward of working in special education. You choose the days you work; we provide the environment where your empathy makes a difference.
Your Dynamic Impact: Responsibilities
- Rapid Relationship Building: Quickly identify a student's unique interests and motivators to encourage their participation in sensory and academic activities.
- Communication Support: Utilise basic Makaton, PECS, or visual choice boards to ensure non-verbal or pre-verbal students can effectively express their needs.
- Proactive Regulation: Support the permanent team in maintaining a low-arousal environment, helping students navigate "brain breaks" and sensory circuits to stay balanced.
- Classroom Versatility: Assist in a wide range of tasks, from outdoor learning and forest school sessions to functional life skills and creative arts.
- Dignity & Wellbeing: Provide essential assistance with mobility and personal hygiene where required, ensuring every student feels safe, clean, and respected.
- Active Collaboration: Act as a proactive "right hand" to the Class Teacher, jumping in to support 1:1 or small group interventions whenever a need arises.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Exceptional Adaptability: The ability to walk into different settings and adjust your support style to the specific needs of the students on that day.
- Resilient Positivity: A calm, "can-do" attitude that remains steady even during a student's difficult or dysregulated moments.
- Reliability: When you accept a shift, the school and the students are counting on you to be a dependable and helpful part of their day.
- Relevant Background: Experience in SEN, healthcare, care work, or youth coaching is ideal, but a genuine heart for supporting neurodiverse learners is the essential trait.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
