We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Social Worker to join our dedicated Assessment and Safeguarding Team in Darlington. You will play a crucial role in conducting comprehensive assessments of children and families, identifying needs and risks, and developing and implementing appropriate support plans. You will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time. You will be expected to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. You will be responsible for managing your own caseload and adhering to all relevant legislation and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of children and families, utilising a range of assessment tools and methodologies. This involves working directly with families, schools, and other relevant agencies to gather information and make informed judgements.
• Develop detailed and well-supported assessment reports that clearly articulate the child's or family's needs and risks. This requires excellent writing and analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Develop and implement appropriate support plans based on assessment findings. This involves working with families to develop goals and strategies to improve their circumstances. This may include the development of Child Protection Plans or Child in Need plans, as appropriate.
• Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to case discussions and decision-making. This requires strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Liaise effectively with other professionals, including social workers, health visitors, educational psychologists, and police, sharing assessment findings and contributing to collaborative working.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, adhering to all relevant legislation and professional guidelines. This involves meticulous record-keeping, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations. You will be expected to use the Council's electronic case management system.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the team's services. This involves participating in regular supervision and contributing to team meetings and training.
• Participate in regular supervision and training opportunities.
• Comply with all relevant policies and procedures of Darlington Borough Council.

Essential Criteria:

• A recognised Social Work qualification.
• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
• Significant post-qualifying experience in children's social work.
• Proven experience conducting comprehensive child and family assessments.
• Excellent assessment, analytical, and report writing skills.
• Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable Criteria:

• Experience working within an assessment and safeguarding team.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and policy frameworks (e.g., Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children).
• Experience with case management software.
