Role Overview:We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Carpenter Multi-Trade Operative to join our reactive repairs team. This is a crucial role responsible for delivering high-quality, efficient maintenance services to our tenants across Basingstoke and the surrounding areas.
This is an excellent 12-week temporary to permanent opportunity for a professional looking for stability and long-term commitment within a social housing environment.
Key Responsibilities:Core Reactive Maintenance & Carpentry Specialist
Attend to and successfully complete all allocated day-to-day and emergency reactive repair works in occupied social housing properties and voids.
Diagnose faults accurately on the first visit, ensuring a strong focus on achieving a "First Time Fix" wherever possible.
Specialise in all aspects of carpentry and joinery, including but not limited to:
Repairing, installing, and adjusting doors (internal and external), frames, locks, handles, and hinges.
Repairing and replacing skirting boards, architraves, kitchen units, and worktops.
Carrying out minor roofing repairs and making safe damaged timber structures.
Multi-Trade Competencies
Carry out competent minor repairs and maintenance across other essential trades:
Basic Plumbing: Repairing leaks, changing taps, repairing toilets/cisterns, and clearing minor waste blockages.
Patch Plastering & Tiling: Carrying out patch repairs to damaged plasterwork, and small tiling repairs in kitchens and bathrooms.
Decorating: Minor 'making good' and decorative repairs following other works.
General Fabric Repairs: Resealing baths/showers, basic brickwork pointing, and fencing repairs.
Operational & Customer Service Excellence
Effectively manage a daily workload using a handheld device/PDA, accurately recording all job details, materials used, and completion notes.
Maintain van stock levels to ensure common repairs can be completed without delay.
Provide excellent customer service to tenants, clearly explaining the work being done and ensuring minimal disruption to their homes.
Adhere strictly to all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Recognised Trade Qualification (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) in Carpentry/Joinery is essential.
Proven, substantial experience working as a Multi-Trade Operative in a reactive maintenance environment (ideally social housing or domestic sector).
Demonstrable competency in carpentry and strong working knowledge across multiple secondary trades (Plumbing, Plastering, Tiling).
Full, valid UK Driving Licence is essential (a company vehicle will be provided).
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and take ownership of tasks.
