The Role
Are you a dedicated professional looking to help children maintain vital connections with their families? We are seeking a Child and Family Worker to facilitate and supervise Family Time (supervised contact) sessions across Kendal and the wider Lancashire area.
You will be the vital link that ensures children in care can spend safe, high-quality time with their birth families. This role is highly mobile and requires a candidate who is organised, empathetic, and resilient, with a deep understanding of child safeguarding.
Key Responsibilities
Supervising Family Time: Facilitate and observe contact sessions between children and their parents or relatives in various community settings or dedicated centers.
Observation & Reporting: Provide detailed, factual, and objective written reports on family interactions to support social workers and court proceedings.
Child Safety: Actively manage risks during sessions, ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of the child is the top priority at all times.
Travel & Logistics: Travel across Lancashire to transport children to sessions or to meet families in different locations.
Support & Guidance: Offer coaching and modeling of positive parenting behaviors to birth parents during sessions where appropriate.
Requirements
Experience: Proven experience working directly with children and families (e.g., Social Care, Education, or Youth Work).
Skills: Exceptional communication skills and the ability to manage complex family dynamics or conflict with a calm, professional approach.
Driving: A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle are essential for this role due to the travel involved across the county.
Compliance: An enhanced DBS check will be required.
Reliability: Ability to commit to a 37-hour work week with a degree of flexibility to meet family needs.
