The Role
Newcastle Council are looking for a Child Protection Lead Practitioner to join their team. In this pivotal role, you will be the expert voice on thresholds of need and risk. You won't just be managing cases; you'll be shaping the quality of practice across the entire Children's Services system-including both Council-led services and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
As a Lead Practitioner, your day-to-day will involve high-level decision-making and system-wide influence:
Convene and chair Strategy Meetings and Child Protection Conferences. You will ensure these meetings are statutory-compliant, inclusive for families, and focused on the child's timescale
Act as a specialist resource, providing guidance, direction, and "co-working" support to both social work qualified and non-qualified practitioners
Use your expertise to challenge drift or delay through formal Escalation Processes. You'll be accountable for key decisions and ensure all data is recorded to the highest standards
Formulate and deliver specialist multi-agency training to elevate safeguarding practice across the region
Contribute to practice reviews and quality assurance activities to ensure we are always learning and improving
What We're Looking For
Someone comfortable navigating the complexities of "significant harm" thresholds and making defensible decisions
The ability to lead multi-agency meetings with a balance of authority, empathy, and professional challenge.
A practitioner who enjoys coaching others and sharing their expertise to build a stronger, more resilient workforce.
A professional who understands that safeguarding doesn't always fit into a 9-to-5 window and is willing to work flexibly to meet service demands.
