📝 The Role & Responsibilities
This is a statutory frontline role requiring expertise in both safeguarding and the specialist legal framework for children with disabilities.
Complex Assessment: Conducting statutory assessments (e.g., Section 17, Carers Assessments) to determine eligibility for services, focusing on the child's holistic needs and long-term planning.
Specialist Support: Developing and implementing comprehensive, personalised care packages, including short breaks, direct payments, and resource allocation.
Transitions & SEND: Leading transition planning for young people moving from children's to adult services, and working closely with the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) framework and EHC (Education, Health and Care) Plans.
Safeguarding: Managing complex safeguarding concerns, including Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) matters for 16/17-year-olds where necessary, and handling Child Protection (CP) and Child in Need (CIN) cases within the CiWD cohort.
Multi-Agency Work: Liaising effectively with Health, Education, and specialist voluntary sector partners to ensure joined-up service delivery.
✅ What You'll Bring
A recognized professional qualification in Social Work.
Current registration with Social Work England (SWE).
A minimum of 2 years post-qualified experience, ideally within a CiWD or specialist disability team.
Expert knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and relevant parts of the Care Act 2014 (transitions).
Ability to manage a complex caseload autonomously.
Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle are essential for traveling across the Carlisle locality.
