About the Role
We are looking to recruit a reliable and self-motivated Operative/Driver to undertake public conveniences cleansing rounds. This role is essential for ensuring that our public facilities are kept clean, safe, and well-maintained for the community. The post holder will be responsible for a designated cleansing schedule and the vehicle and equipment provided.
As an Operative/Driver, you will be responsible for the thorough cleansing of all aspects of public conveniences. This is a hands-on role that requires you to work with a limited amount of supervision and use your own initiative to manage your daily tasks effectively. You will be a key representative of the council, working diligently to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across the county.
Main Responsibilities
- Vehicle Operation and Maintenance: Drive vehicles provided with due care and attention. You will conduct daily vehicle checks, including tyres, lights, oil, and water, and report any defects found.
- Cleaning Duties: Undertake a comprehensive range of cleaning tasks, including washing, sweeping, mopping, and power cleansing of all internal surfaces like floors, walls, ceilings, doors, and sanitary fittings.
- Facility Upkeep: Ensure facilities are well-stocked by replenishing toilet tissue and liquid soap dispensers. You will also be responsible for the emptying of litter bins, removing graffiti, and polishing designated areas.
- Site Management: Carry out the opening and closing of premises as required. You will also report any defects, problems, or acts of vandalism you encounter.
- Health and Safety: Adhere strictly to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. This includes complying with all Safe Working Codes of Practice and using issued Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment at all times. You must also handle discarded items such as needles and glass with special care.
- Record Keeping: Complete all necessary paperwork, which may include worksheets and banking documentation when required.
- Flexibility: Be prepared to respond to emergency situations like spillages or leaks and be willing to undertake other duties within your competence if primary work is unavailable.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a full, valid UK driving licence.
- Possesses a good knowledge of the Conwy County Borough Council areas.
- Is experienced in the cleansing industry and understands the correct use of cleaning equipment and materials.
- Has a solid understanding of Health & Safety legislation and is trained in Manual Handling.
- Can work effectively on their own or as part of a team.
- Has good oral and written communication skills to maintain clear records and communicate with supervisors and the public.
- Is able to deal with the public in a friendly and courteous manner, even in situations involving conflict.
- Is physically fit, able to sustain high levels of physical output, and can work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Is motivated to deliver a high-quality service and has a keen eye for detail.
- The ability to speak Welsh is desirable but not essential.
