The Opportunity: Locum Contract
This is a Full-Time, Ongoing Locum Contract working 37 hours per week in South Tyneside. The role offers a highly competitive pay rate of £28.29 per hour, reflecting the specialist nature of the work.
📝 Core Duties and Responsibilities
This role requires a blend of frontline safeguarding, meticulous assessment, and legal expertise related to permanence for Children in Care (CiC/LAC).
Kinship Assessment: Undertaking complex and detailed viability assessments and full Regulation 24 (Temporary Approval) assessments of prospective Special Guardians (usually grandparents, aunts/uncles, or family friends).
Special Guardianship (SGO) Reports: Preparing comprehensive and high-quality Special Guardianship Reports for the Family Court, providing critical evidence and analysis regarding the suitability of the carers and the long-term plan for the child.
Support Planning: Assessing the long-term support needs of approved Special Guardians, including financial, therapeutic, and contact support, and coordinating packages to ensure placement stability.
Fostering Liaison: Working closely with the Fostering Team to manage the transition where connected carers are approved as Family and Friends Foster Carers.
Statutory Compliance: Ensuring all work is compliant with the Children Act 1989, SGO Regulations, and relevant Fostering regulations.
✅ What We Need From You
A recognized professional qualification in Social Work.
Current registration with Social Work England (SWE).
A minimum of 2 years post-qualified experience, ideally within Fostering, Permanence, or a specialist Kinship/Connected Carers Team.
Proven experience in writing and presenting analytical, court-ready reports (e.g., SGO Reports, Form C).
Strong commitment to achieving permanence for children and excellent direct work skills with both children and adult family members.
