We are looking for a Cost Engineer to support the commercial, delivery, and finance teams in ensuring accurate cost control and the timely processing of supplier and subcontractor payments. The role is depot-based and plays a key part in maintaining strong financial governance across infrastructure and construction projects.
You will be responsible for cost tracking, reconciliation, reporting, and resolving account queries, working closely with project teams, suppliers, and finance colleagues to ensure costs are accurately captured and controlled.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the project commercial team with cost control, focusing on labour, plant, materials, and subcontract works
Track purchase orders and reconcile actual costs against budgets
Ensure timely processing of delivery records and goods received information
Work with finance teams to support payment performance targets
Proactively resolve invoice, delivery, and cost queries with suppliers and delivery teams
Collate, reconcile, and report cost data from site and financial systems
Liaise with delivery teams to obtain accurate labour, plant, and material records
Maintain accurate schedules, trackers, and cost reports
Support the preparation of cost reports, audits, and subcontractor payment processes
Monitor purchase order utilisation and highlight risks where limits are approached
Work closely with project and finance teams to ensure commercial and financial processes are followed
Participate in project review meetings and contribute to performance reporting
Build and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers and subcontractors
Undertake any other reasonable duties as required
Safety & Ethics: Promote and support safe, ethical, and compliant working practices
Excellence: Ensure cost data is accurate, timely, and supports efficient project delivery
People: Work collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues, suppliers, and stakeholders
Experience working in a cost, commercial, or finance role within the construction or engineering sector
Contractor-side experience on civil engineering or infrastructure projects
Strong understanding of cost and budget administration
Experience with financial and commercial reporting
Working knowledge of finance or cost control systems
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Full UK driving licence
Experience using data reporting tools such as Power BI
Knowledge of cost control systems
Membership of a relevant professional body
Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Cost Engineer on major projects or
At least 5 years' experience as a Cost Clerk in a similar industry
Degree in a relevant discipline (Finance, Construction, Business, Mathematics) - desirable
