A fantastic opportunity is available for a Cover Supervisor to join our partner Secondary School in Ipswich. This key role involves overseeing classes and managing student behaviour during the short-term absence of a teacher. You will be responsible for ensuring students are engaged with the pre-set work, playing a crucial part in maintaining the smooth operation of the school day. This is an ideal position for aspiring educators, recent graduates, or anyone with experience working with young people who want to develop their skills in a school setting.
Your Responsibilities
- Supervise full classes across a range of subjects, ensuring students are focused on the work provided by the absent teacher.
- Implement the school's behaviour policies to create and maintain a focused and respectful classroom atmosphere.
- Offer support to students by answering procedural questions about the assigned work, but not by teaching new material.
- Accurately take attendance and collect completed assignments at the end of the lesson.
- Provide clear and concise feedback to the returning teacher about the class's progress and any noteworthy events.
- Adhere to all school policies, including those related to safeguarding and confidentiality.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with young people in a school or similar environment is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in classroom and behaviour management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students and colleagues.
- An adaptable and reliable approach, as you will be working with different classes and subjects on short notice.
- The ability to work independently and make decisions with confidence.
- A Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to apply for one).
- Please note: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is not required for this position.
