About the Role
This is an exceptional, full-time, permanent opportunity for a highly ambitious and experienced leader to take on the role of Director of Science at a vibrant secondary academy in Bradford. The incoming Director will be responsible for leading the Science department, driving strategic development, and ensuring the curriculum is seamless from primary links through to Key Stage 4. This role demands a commitment to high expectations, innovative pedagogy, and a focus on raising the achievement and progress of every student. The core purpose is to provide expert and innovative leadership of teaching and the curriculum across all ages and abilities.

Essential Requirements
... - Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Proven record of success in raising student achievement and leadership experience in a mixed, comprehensive school or academy.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.

- Strategic Planning: Proven experience in academy/school planning, monitoring, review, and evaluation processes.
- Data Analysis: Strong ability to use assessment data effectively to set targets, raise achievement, and inform strategic decisions.
- Curriculum Expertise: Deep, current knowledge of science teaching, learning, and curriculum development at the secondary level.
- Coaching & Mentoring: The capability to act as an instructional coach, supporting colleague's professional development.
- Communication & Diplomacy: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills to build and maintain healthy, inclusive relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Lead the development, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the science curriculum in line with the academy's strategic plan.
- Curriculum Vision: Establish strategic planning for the development and resourcing of the department, including syllabuses, schemes of work, and assessment strategies.
- Data-Driven Improvement: Analyse and interpret national, local, and academy data to identify trends, inform policies, and define effective intervention strategies.
- Team Accountability: Be accountable for the performance of the team, including line management and ensuring the effectiveness of Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 leads.
- Pedagogical Excellence: Observe colleagues, provide developmental feedback, and promote innovative and effective teaching strategies across the department.
- STEM Leadership: Take specific responsibility for leading whole-school Science and STEM initiatives, including linking with feeder primary schools and generating excitement through extracurricular activities.
- Resource Management: Ensure the effective deployment of all resources, including staff, budget, and learning materials, following academy financial regulations.
- Wider Impact: Contribute to academy improvement priorities, oversee the departmental development plan, and build effective links with the local community.
- Safeguarding and Ethos: Work within child protection procedures and promote the ethos and values.
- Teaching Commitment: Be expected to teach in line with academy expectations and fulfill the role of a form tutor.
