An exciting opportunity has opened for a Qualified DT, Art & Food Tech Teacher to join a specialised Secondary School in Thetford. This unique role requires a "jack-of-all-trades" educator who can deliver high-quality instruction across Design Technology, Fine Art, and Food Technology. You will be working with students who have various special educational needs, including Autism (ASC) and SEMH, helping them develop both vocational skills and creative expression. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is a mandatory requirement for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Multi-Disciplinary Instruction: Plan and deliver engaging lessons across DT, Art, and Food Technology, ensuring projects are achievable yet challenging for students with SEN.
- Vocational Skill Building: Teach essential life skills, from kitchen safety and basic nutrition to the safe use of tools and artistic techniques.
- Curriculum Adaptation: Differentiate practical tasks to meet the fine motor skills and sensory requirements of individual learners.
- EHCP Integration: Ensure that creative projects support the wider goals of each student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Safety & Environment: Maintain a highly organized and safe workshop, studio, and kitchen environment, implementing clear routines and de-escalation strategies.
- Collaborative Planning: Work with the wider school team to integrate creative arts into the students' holistic development and therapy goals.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS is essential.
- Proven experience teaching at least two of the three subjects (DT, Art, or Food Tech) within a UK Secondary or SEN setting.
- A strong understanding of SEN pedagogy and the ability to manage a classroom with diverse learning and behavioral needs.
- Excellent organisational skills to manage multiple practical departments and resources.
- A patient, resilient, and creative approach to classroom management.
- An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
