About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Design and Technology Technician, specialising in Resistant Materials, to join a successful school in the Wakefield area. This is a full-time position, starting ASAP, reporting directly to the Head of Department. This crucial role is centred around providing comprehensive technical support and resource management for the Design and Technology department. The Technician is vital to the effective and safe delivery of Resistant Materials lessons, ensuring both staff and students have access to well-maintained equipment and prepared materials.

Essential Requirements

- Proficiency in basic ICT skills for administrative and technical support tasks.

Essential Skills
- Workshop Machinery Operation: Proficient in the safe operation and basic maintenance of various Resistant Materials tools and machinery.
- Resource Management: Excellent organisational skills for managing stock, ordering resources, and maintaining inventories.
- Health and Safety Knowledge: A strong understanding and commitment to workshop health and safety procedures, including risk assessment maintenance.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to setting up equipment, preparing materials, and ensuring classroom tidiness.
- Proactive Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and report faulty machinery and deal with immediate problems or emergencies effectively.
- Teamwork and Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for liaising with the Head of Department, staff, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaison and Support: Regularly communicate with the Head of Department to coordinate tasks and departmental needs.
- Materials Preparation: General preparation of materials and assisting teachers with demonstration setup for lessons.
- Inventory and Stock Management: Order resources, manage stock levels, and maintain a comprehensive inventory of materials.
- Workshop Safety: Arrange for regular safety inspections of all machinery and equipment, and secure all tools and teaching areas when not in use.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance and set up of workshop tools and machinery, reporting and liaising with contractors for faulty equipment.
- Classroom Environment: Maintain engaging classroom displays and ensure each teaching room is tidy, clean, and free from hazards.
- Teaching and Learning Support: Directly support teaching in the classroom, including working with small groups of students on practical tasks.
- Technical Production: Utilise facilities for heat treatment processes, such as brazing, welding, and casting.
- Administrative Support: Carry out essential printing, scanning, photocopying, laminating, and mounting of pupil's work and lesson resources.
- Compliance and Risk: Organise, maintain, and monitor all technology tools and equipment, and maintain a record of the department's risk assessments.
