With a robust pipeline of exciting new ventures, predominantly in the £5m - £20m range, they are looking for a talented and experienced Estimating Manager to join their pre-construction team.
The Role:
They are seeking a proactive and commercially astute Estimating Manager to lead the estimating function for a diverse portfolio of commercial building projects. This individual will be instrumental in securing new work, providing accurate and competitive tenders, and contributing significantly to the continued success and growth of the business. Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Tender Management: Lead the full tender process from initial enquiry to submission, ensuring all proposals are comprehensive, compliant, and submitted within deadlines.
Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed, accurate, and competitive cost estimates for a variety of commercial building projects, typically ranging from £5m to £20m. This will involve:
Thorough review of tender documents, drawings, and specifications.
Quantification of materials, labour, and plant requirements.
Obtaining and critically assessing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
Identifying and evaluating risks and opportunities.
Producing detailed breakdowns and cost plans.
Strategic Input: Contribute to the overall bidding strategy, identifying competitive advantages and innovative solutions.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with the pre-construction team, design managers, operations, and commercial teams to ensure a seamless transition from tender to project delivery.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners. Attend pre-tender meetings and present tenders as required.
Market Analysis: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, material costs, labour rates, and construction methods within the North East.
Value Engineering: Identify and propose value engineering options to optimize project costs without compromising quality or design intent.
Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on tender progress, success rates, and market conditions to senior management.
Process Improvement: Continuously review and improve estimating processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Mentoring: Potentially provide guidance and support to junior estimators within the team.
About You:
Proven experience as an Estimating Manager or Senior Estimator within a Main Contractor environment.
Excellent understanding of various construction methods, materials, and building regulations.
Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.
Residing in or willing to relocate to the North East of England.
A relevant construction-related qualification (e.g., Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, HNC/HND) is highly desirable.
