The Role:A fantastic opportunity is available for dedicated and professional General Cover Supervisors to join the team, working across various partnership schools in the Bury St Edmunds area on a supply or temporary contract basis.
This role is essential to maintaining the quality and continuity of student education. You will be responsible for supervising pre-planned work left by the absent teacher, ensuring that students remain on task and adhere to school policies. While you are not expected to teach the subject matter, your ability to manage classroom dynamics, encourage positive behaviour, and facilitate a productive atmosphere is crucial. This role offers excellent insight into different school environments and provides invaluable experience.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise classes of students across key stages (KS3, KS4, and potentially KS5) during short-term teacher absences.
- Clearly explain the pre-set work to students and manage the completion of tasks, promoting high standards of effort.
- Implement the school's behaviour management policy consistently and effectively to maintain a well-managed and positive classroom environment.
- Respond to student questions about the task or assignment content to the best of your ability, referring complex queries to departmental staff.
- Report back to the permanent teacher or departmental head on student engagement and any issues arising during the lesson.
- Adhere to all school safeguarding and health and safety policies and procedures.
- Prior experience working with groups of children or young people (e.g., teaching assistant, youth work, tutoring, or cover supervision) is highly desirable.
- Excellent classroom management skills and the confidence to supervise classes independently.
- Strong adaptability, reliability, and the ability to quickly build rapport with students and staff.
- A professional, authoritative yet approachable presence within the classroom.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
- A highly competitive daily rate of £120 - £150, paid weekly/monthly depending on the contract nature.
