The Role in Detail:We have excellent and ongoing opportunities for capable and adaptable General Cover Supervisors to join the team, serving a variety of highly regarded schools throughout the Cambridge area on a supply or temporary contract basis.
This role is paramount for ensuring educational continuity. Your primary function involves stepping in to supervise classrooms when the regular teacher is absent. You will be tasked with clearly presenting the pre-set work left by the teacher and, most importantly, managing the classroom environment to keep students focused, motivated, and adhering strictly to the school's behavioural standards. This is an ideal role for individuals who thrive on variety and wish to gain significant exposure to different educational settings.
Core Responsibilities- Take immediate command of classes across various key stages (KS3 to KS5), delivering the instructions for the assigned cover work.
- Enforce the school's behaviour management policies proactively and consistently to ensure a calm, orderly, and productive learning atmosphere.
- Monitor student progress during the lesson, encouraging independent work and effort.
- Handle general classroom administration, including taking attendance and managing resources.
- Provide accurate and constructive feedback to the returning teacher or relevant head of department concerning the lesson's outcome and any behavioural issues.
- Comply fully with all school safety regulations and safeguarding procedures.
- Proven experience in a role requiring supervision, training, or management of groups of young people (e.g., teaching assistant, sports coaching, youth work).
- Excellent classroom management abilities and a commanding, confident presence when addressing students.
- High degree of reliability, flexibility, and the professional agility needed to switch between different subjects and school cultures.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain composure and authority under pressure.
- Must hold a current Enhanced Child DBS registered on the update service (or be ready to submit an application promptly).
- A competitive and consistent daily pay rate of £120 - £150.
