Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Sheffield
We are actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join one of our committed schools in Sheffield from September 2025. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to take on significant responsibilities, supporting both teachers and pupils to achieve outstanding learning outcomes.
The Role: Elevating Learning and Support
As a HLTA, you will play a crucial and varied role within one of our schools, contributing significantly to the smooth running of the classroom and the development of our pupils. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading Learning Sessions: Independently delivering pre-planned lessons, covering classes in the teacher's absence, and ensuring continuous, effective teaching and learning.
- Classroom & Behaviour Management: Taking responsibility for maintaining discipline, fostering a positive and conducive learning environment, and implementing effective behaviour management strategies.
- Targeted Pupil Support: Providing specialised and targeted support to individual pupils or small groups, particularly those with specific needs in areas like literacy, numeracy, or SEN, enabling them to access the curriculum and achieve a sense of accomplishment.
- Assessment & Monitoring: Contributing to the assessment of student performance, providing constructive feedback, and assisting teachers in monitoring pupil progress to inform future planning.
- Collaboration & Communication: Working closely with class teachers to promote effective teaching strategies, sharing insights and best practices, and communicating regularly with parents/caregivers regarding pupil progress and any concerns.
- Resource & Administrative Management: Preparing classroom materials, undertaking essential administrative duties like record-keeping, and ensuring resources are well-organised and readily available.
- Promoting Well-being: Supporting and supervising pupils throughout the school day, fostering their independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion, whilst upholding professional conduct and ensuring their safety and well-being.
Essential Requirements
- HLTA Qualification (Level 4)
- Experience of working as a HLTA
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
