Thetford
Are you a seasoned SEN professional ready to trade the "support" role for a "leadership" role?
Can you step into the shoes of a teacher with confidence, manage a classroom team with ease, and still maintain the deep, 1:1 connection that students with complex needs require?
We are looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a dynamic specialist school in Thetford. This role is a vital "bridge" position-perfect for an experienced TA looking for more responsibility or an aspiring teacher wanting to hone their craft in a high-support environment. You will be working with students across the neurodiverse spectrum, ensuring that even when the class teacher is away, the quality of education never falters.
Your Elevated Impact
As an HLTA in this Thetford provision, you will operate with a higher degree of autonomy:
- Cover Leadership: Independently lead classes using pre-set plans, ensuring a seamless transition for students who thrive on consistency and routine.
- Team Direction: Act as a "Lead TA," coordinating the classroom support staff to ensure 1:1 interventions are delivered effectively and safely.
- Curriculum Adaptation: Take raw lesson plans and "SEN-proof" them-adding sensory elements, visual aids, or simplified language to suit the specific cohort.
- Specialist Interventions: Drive progress in key areas like speech and language, social skills, or motor development through targeted, high-level 1:1 sessions.
- EHCP Contribution: Assist in the complex task of data collection and progress mapping, providing a senior perspective for EHCP reviews and stakeholder meetings.
What You'll Bring
- Qualifications: HLTA Status (Level 4) is highly desirable, or significant experience in a senior support capacity within an SEN setting.
- Resilient Leadership: The ability to remain the "calmest person in the room" during behavioral incidents and guide junior staff in de-escalation techniques.
- Communication Expertise: Proficiency in Makaton, PECS, or other AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) tools.
- Collaborative Mindset: A proactive approach to working with the Class Teacher, SENCO, and external therapists.
- Vetting: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service is mandatory (or willingness to obtain one).
