An extraordinary opportunity has arisen for a Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join a specialised Hospital School team in Cambridge. In this role, you will work with children and young people who are currently inpatients, ensuring that their education continues despite their health challenges. You will be a bridge between the clinical environment and the classroom, providing the stability and academic encouragement these students need to stay on track.
Key Responsibilities
- Bespoke Educational Support: Provide high-quality 1:1 and small group support to students across Key Stages 1-4, often delivering work set by their home schools.
- Bedside Learning: Adapt your teaching style to support pupils who may be restricted to their wards or bedsides, ensuring lessons are engaging yet mindful of their energy levels.
- Holistic Wellbeing: Work closely with medical staff and families to ensure the student's educational goals align with their current treatment and recovery plan.
- Resource Innovation: Utilise technology and creative resources to make learning accessible for students with varying physical or cognitive limitations.
- Transition Assistance: Help students prepare for their eventual return to mainstream or specialist schooling by maintaining their academic confidence and skills.
- Detailed Observation: Keep meticulous records of student engagement and progress to share with the teaching team, medical professionals, and the student's primary school.
Requirements
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification (or equivalent) is essential.
- Proven experience working with children with SEN, SEMH, or complex medical needs.
- Exceptional empathy and the ability to maintain positive, professional boundaries in a sensitive hospital environment.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills to support a broad range of subjects at different levels.
- Flexibility and resilience-the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing daily schedule based on student health.
- An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
