We are seeking a proactive and skilled Instructing Learning Support Mentor specialising in Catering to join a leading Supported Learning department in Cambridge. This is a unique, hands-on role where you will bridge the gap between education and industry, instructing students with diverse learning needs within high-end commercial environments, including prestigious collegiate kitchens and serving areas.
Your Vocational Impact: Responsibilities
- Practical Instruction: Lead 1:2 practical sessions in active commercial areas such as the Buttery, professional kitchens, and hospitality suites, ensuring students gain authentic work experience.
- Instructional Cover: Provide high-quality cover for absent teachers and instructors, following established schemes of work to ensure business continuity and student familiarity.
- Targeted Mentoring: Offer 1:1 booster and catch-up sessions for learners requiring additional support to meet their vocational goals.
- Community-Based Learning: Lead educational trips off-campus, such as sourcing ingredients, to teach functional life skills and commercial awareness.
- Assessment & Marking: Evaluate student work against College Certificate outcomes and awarding body criteria to track and celebrate progress.
- Collaborative Support: Work closely with Course Leaders and the Assistant Head of Department to ensure a seamless and safe learning experience across all campuses.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Culinary Expertise: A strong background in catering or hospitality, with the ability to demonstrate professional standards in a kitchen and service environment.
- Educational Heart: Experience in a learning support or mentoring role, particularly with students in a "Supported Learning" or SEN context.
- Professional Versatility: The agility to work across different sites in Cambridge and adapt your instruction style to meet individual learner needs.

Essential Requirements & Conditions
- Enhanced DBS: Must hold (or be willing to process) an enhanced DBS check.
- Food Safety: Must hold or be willing to complete a Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety qualification (refreshed every 3 years).
- Specialist Training: Willingness to undertake yearly Epilepsy Training (including administering emergency medication) to support students during independent work.
- Travel: Ability to travel between Cambridge sites efficiently (public transport is highly recommended due to central location constraints).
