As an IRO, you will be the lead safeguarder for children in the Carlisle area and across the wider county. You will provide the independent oversight necessary to ensure every child's care plan is robust, timely, and centered on their best interests.
Key Responsibilities:
Chairing Meetings: Lead Child Protection (CP) Conferences and Cared For (LAC) Statutory Reviews.
Quality Assurance: Monitor and challenge care planning to ensure the Local Authority is meeting its statutory duties.
The Voice of the Child: Ensure that children and young people are active participants in their own reviews.
County-Wide Impact: While based in Carlisle, you will travel across the county to conduct reviews and meet with families and professionals.
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following criteria:
IRO Experience: Proven experience specifically as an Independent Reviewing Officer.
Subject Matter Expertise: Deep knowledge of both Child Protection (CP) and Cared For Children (LAC) frameworks.
Local Presence: A minimum of 2-3 days per week on-site in the Carlisle area is required.
Mobility: A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle (the role involves significant travel across the county).
Registration: Current Social Work England registration.
Pay: £46 per hour (Fixed).
