Junior Site Engineering - Civil Construction - Colchester

We are urgently recruiting for a promising Junior Site Engineer to join a dynamic team working on a portfolio of heavy civils projects. The primary focus of this role will be on-site surveying, data collection, and supporting GPS-guided machine control systems.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with 1-2 years of experience to specialise in a high-demand area of modern civil engineering. Our client is a principal contractor with a reputation for engineering excellence. You will be mentored by experienced professionals and given the tools and training to become an expert in your field.
The Role:
As a Junior Site Engineer, you will be the key person on site for all surveying and data-related tasks. You will be responsible for collecting accurate data and assisting with our GPS machine control systems. This is a hands-on, site-based role where you will be a vital member of the delivery team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surveying & Data Collection: Conduct detailed site surveys using GPS equipment (Trimble) to collect accurate data for project records and progress monitoring.
- Machine Control: Assisting with the setup, calibration, and support of GPS machine control systems on site plant and machinery.
- Quality & Records: Conduct quality checks on all works and maintain meticulous site records, including as-built surveys, daily diaries, and material logs.
- Technical Support: Assist the wider site team with the interpretation of technical drawings and survey data.
- Health & Safety: Uphold and promote robust health and safety standards across all site activities.
About You:
We are looking for a motivated and ambitious individual with a clear passion for the technical aspects of civil engineering and a strong desire to develop new skills.
Essential Requirements:
- 1-2 years of post-qualification experience in a site-based engineering or surveying role.
- Proven experience using GPS survey equipment, with Trimble experience being highly advantageous.
- A demonstrable willingness to learn and grow, particularly within machine control technology.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Must be based within a commutable distance of Colchester, Essex.
Desirable:
- Direct experience with GPS machine control systems.
- Experience working on highways or major earthworks projects.
- Possession of a valid CSCS card.
