The Role: Key Stage 1 SEND Learning Support Assistant
We are seeking a caring, skilled, and resilient Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) who have identified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role requires dedication, empathy, and the ability to work closely with the class teacher and the SENDCo to ensure pupils can access the curriculum and achieve their individual targets.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND, following strategies set out in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Assist the class teacher in preparing and adapting learning resources to ensure they are accessible and differentiated for pupils with diverse needs.
- Support pupils in developing their independence, self-help skills, and social interaction within the classroom and playground.
- Implement positive behaviour management strategies consistently to support pupils who may present with emotional or behavioural difficulties.
- Observe and accurately record the progress and challenges of supported pupils, feeding back regularly to the class teacher and SENDCo.
- Support pupils during transitions, lunchtimes, and during the delivery of specialist programs (e.g., speech and language, sensory circuits).
- Foster a positive, safe, and nurturing atmosphere that promotes confidence and engagement in learning.
What We're Looking For:
- Previous experience working with children with SEND in a school or educational setting (Key Stage 1 experience is desirable).
- A good understanding of common barriers to learning and effective strategies to overcome them.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and highly flexible when dealing with unpredictable situations or complex needs.
- Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with pupils, staff, and parents.
- A proactive approach, showing initiative in managing the pupil's learning and emotional needs.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children.
