This role is perfect for teachers seeking flexibility without the long-term commitment of a permanent post, or those looking to gain vast experience in different settings across Year 1 and Year 2. As a KS1 Supply Teacher , you'll be responsible for ensuring curriculum continuity, managing the classroom, and making sure every day is a productive learning day for the pupils.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver Pre-Planned Lessons: Implement engaging and differentiated lessons across core KS1 subjects (Phonics, Maths, English) provided by the class teacher.
Maintain Classroom Management: Quickly establish rapport and effectively manage the class environment, ensuring a safe and positive atmosphere that adheres to the school's behaviour policy.
Assess and Report: Provide concise feedback to the class teacher at the end of the day regarding work covered, pupil progress, and any necessary follow-up.
Support Early Literacy: Confidently lead Phonics sessions (e.g., using schemes like Read Write Inc. or Jolly Phonics) and guided reading activities.
Adapt and Be Versatile: Quickly adapt your teaching style to suit different school cultures, policies, and specific class needs on a daily basis.
What We Look for in You
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential (UK or recognised equivalent). ECTs are encouraged to apply.
Recent experience teaching within Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and/or Year 2) is mandatory.
Expert knowledge of the KS1 National Curriculum and effective strategies for teaching Phonics and early Numeracy.
Exceptional resilience, reliability, and punctuality, crucial traits for successful supply teaching.
A high degree of flexibility and the ability to travel easily around the Leeds area.
A fully enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one) registered on the Update Service.
