Position Overview
BD, a global leader in medical technology, is seeking a skilled and proactive Manufacturing Maintenance Technician to join our production team in Swindon. In this key role, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment within a cleanroom and GMP-compliant environment.
This hands-on role requires strong electrical and mechanical maintenance skills, a solutions-focused mindset, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver electrical and mechanical support across all manufacturing areas.
Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and perform reactive repairs on production equipment.
Monitor machine performance and respond promptly to breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
Manage and maintain machine spare parts inventory to ensure availability.
Utilise SAP (or similar systems) to schedule and log maintenance activities.
Support production targets by maintaining optimal machine efficiency and safety.
Provide technical guidance on machinery-related issues.
Investigate recurring equipment faults and develop long-term corrective actions.
Contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives within the maintenance and production teams.
Participate in health and safety protocols, including risk assessments.
Assist in training machine operators and junior technicians in maintenance best practices.
Essential Skills and Experience
Formal qualifications in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Apprenticeship, HND, or equivalent).
Experience in a medium to high-volume manufacturing setting.
Solid understanding of high-speed automated machinery and assembly lines.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose faults and carry out timely, effective repairs.
Familiarity with preventive maintenance processes and tools.
Self-motivated and capable of working independently to meet maintenance objectives.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems (e.g., SAP).
Willingness to work a 12-hour day shift on a 3-on/3-off rotation.
Desirable Attributes
Previous experience in a medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
Team-oriented mindset with the ability to support colleagues during time-sensitive maintenance issues.
