Finding the right balance between professional challenge and an extraordinary quality of life is rare, but this role in the Shetland Islands offers exactly that.
As a recruitment partner for Shetland Islands Council, I am looking for a dedicated Social Worker who holds a Mental Health Officer (MHO) award to join a tight-knit, multi-disciplinary team. This is a unique "dual-role" opportunity where you can maintain your specialist MHO skills while staying connected to the broader community through a generic adult caseload.
Benefits of our brilliant rewards package include:
... - Flexible Hours: Control your work hours and choose assignments that fit your lifestyle.
- Competitive Pay Rates: We offer highly competitive remuneration for each placement.
- Professional Development: Opportunities to work across various departments, enhancing your skills and broadening your expertise.
- Free training: Keep up to date with your Continuous Professional Development.
- Pension Scheme: Contributory pension.
- Referral Bonus: Receive £300 in vouchers (subject to Ts and Cs).
- Weekly payroll: Randstad runs a twice weekly payroll, enabling you to control your finances by receiving weekly pay.
- Dedicated Support: Our team is here to assist you at every step, from onboarding through the entirety of your placement. We can even help with sourcing accommodation and travel, if required.
The Role
In Shetland, Social Work is community-focused. Because of the islands' geography, you won't be siloed into a massive department; instead, you will be a visible, vital part of the health and social care partnership.
Key Responsibilities
- MHO Duties: Carrying out statutory duties under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.
- Adult Support & Protection: Managing a generic adult caseload including elderly care, physical disabilities, and transitions.
- Integrated Working: Collaborating closely with GPs, community nurses, and the police to provide holistic care in remote settings.
- Advocacy: Acting as a safeguard for the rights of individuals within the mental health system.
Why Shetland?
Working in the Northern Isles isn't just a job change; it's a lifestyle shift.
- Autonomy: You will have the freedom to practice social work the way it was intended-building long-term relationships with service users.
- The Landscape: From the dramatic cliffs of Eshaness to the Northern Lights (Mirrie Dancers), the scenery is your daily office backdrop.
- Community: Shetland is famous for its safety, world-class schools, and vibrant "Up Helly Aa" fire festivals.
- The Logistics: Frequent flights and overnight ferries connect you easily to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.
- Financial support with accommodation will be provided.
- Financial support with travel will be provided.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A degree in Social Work or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
- Current SSSC registration as a social worker.
- Mental Health Officer qualification
This could be the perfect position in which to realise your career goals.
