The Opportunity: Bespoke Maths Education in Cambridge
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Part-Time SEN Maths Teacher to join a highly regarded specialist SEN School in Cambridge. This unique role offers the opportunity to focus entirely on personalised, differentiated instruction, helping pupils who have a range of Special Educational Needs to achieve fundamental mathematical competence and feel successful. You will be responsible for creating a supportive, low-anxiety environment where learning is tailored, practical, and highly engaging.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated Maths lessons to small groups or individual students with diverse SEN requirements.
- Adapt the curriculum to meet the specific learning styles of pupils, which may include using visual aids, sensory tools, and multi-sensory teaching techniques.
- Assess student progress thoughtfully and contribute to the development and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including teaching assistants, therapists, and SEN coordinators, to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
- Foster a positive, encouraging atmosphere where students feel safe to ask questions, take risks, and develop confidence in their mathematical abilities.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential, preferably with a specialism in Mathematics.
- Demonstrable experience teaching Maths to students with a range of SEN (e.g., Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties, SEMH).
- In-depth knowledge of effective differentiated instruction and SEN teaching strategies.
- Exceptional compassion, resilience, and communication skills when working with complex needs.
- A commitment to working a specified part-time schedule.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
