An exciting opportunity has arisen for a SEN PE Instructor to join our partner specialist school in Fordham. This is a Full-Time long-term contract where you will take the lead in delivering a dynamic and inclusive Physical Education curriculum. We are looking for someone who can move beyond standard sports coaching to provide sensory-rich, therapeutic, and highly adapted physical sessions for students with Autism (ASC), SEMH, and complex learning needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Field: Plan and deliver a diverse range of PE lessons, from traditional team sports to sensory circuits and motor-skill development.
- Inclusive Coaching: Adapt every session to meet the individual needs of students, ensuring those with physical disabilities or sensory processing needs are fully included.
- Target Focused: Monitor student progress and social development, ensuring that physical activity targets align with their individual EHCP goals.
- Team Leadership: Manage a small team of Teaching Assistants during PE sessions to ensure safety, engagement, and high-quality 1:1 support.
- Healthy Habits: Promote the importance of physical health, teamwork, and emotional regulation through active play and structured sport.
- Safe Practice: Maintain a safe environment by following strict health and safety protocols and using positive behaviour management strategies.
Requirements
- Proven Sports Background: Experience as a PE Instructor, Sports Coach, or HLTA with a strong specialism in Physical Education.
- SEN Expertise: Significant experience working with children or young adults with additional needs, with an understanding of how to adapt sports for SEN.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to motivate students who may face barriers to physical engagement.
- Leadership Skills: The confidence to lead a classroom/gym environment and direct support staff effectively.
- Resilience: A patient and adaptable nature, with the ability to manage challenging situations with a positive, "can-do" attitude.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
