A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an SEN PE Instructor to join a specialist provision situated near Newmarket. This isn't just a standard coaching role; it is a chance to lead sessions that improve coordination, social skills, and emotional regulation for students with Autism (ASC), ADHD, and other learning challenges. You will be the architect of a safe, active space where physical success is defined by individual milestones and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Bespoke PE Delivery: Design and lead Physical Education sessions that range from traditional sports to sensory-based motor skill circuits.
- Inclusive Coaching: Modify rules, equipment, and communication styles (using visual aids or Makaton where needed) to ensure every student is a participant.
- Empowering the Team: Manage and direct a team of Learning Support Assistants during your sessions, ensuring safety and high-quality 1:1 engagement.
- Holistic Development: Use physical activity to teach vital life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and positive social interaction.
- Outcome Mapping: Track and record student progress, ensuring that achievements in PE contribute meaningfully to their broader EHCP targets.
- Environment Management: Oversee the school's sports facilities and equipment, ensuring a sensory-safe and organized environment for all.
Requirements
- Instructional Experience: A proven track record in sports coaching, fitness instruction, or leading physical activity in a school or community setting.
- SEN Experience: Previous experience working with children or young adults with additional needs is highly preferred.
- Resilient Mindset: A patient, adaptable, and calm approach, especially when supporting students with challenging emotional or sensory needs.
- Leadership Skills: The confidence to take charge of a group and the ability to mentor support staff.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to build trust with students who may find physical activity overwhelming.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
