A fantastic opportunity is now available for an energetic PE Instructor to join our partner specialist school in Soham. This role isn't just about blowing a whistle; it's about understanding the unique sensory and physical requirements of students with Autism (ASC), ADHD, and complex needs. You will be responsible for leading a variety of physical activities that promote motor skills, teamwork, and emotional regulation in a supportive, high-energy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inclusive Activity Design: Develop and deliver a physical education program that caters to all abilities, ensuring students with physical or sensory challenges are fully engaged.
- Skill Development: Focus on improving students' fine and gross motor skills, coordination, and physical confidence through tailored exercises.
- Positive Leadership: Direct and mentor a team of Support Assistants during sessions to ensure every student receives the 1:1 attention they need to participate safely.
- Behavioural Support: Use sport as a tool for emotional regulation, applying positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies during high-energy activities.
- Progress Monitoring: Observe and record student achievements, ensuring that physical milestones are captured in line with their individual EHCPs.
- Departmental Oversight: Maintain sports equipment and ensure all physical activity areas are safe, organised, and inviting for the students.
Requirements
- Sports Instruction Experience: Proven background in sports coaching, personal training, or as a school-based PE lead.
- SEN Passion: Experience (or a strong vocational interest) in working with children with special educational needs.
- High Energy & Patience: An active, enthusiastic personality combined with the resilience required to support students with complex behaviours.
- Adaptability: The ability to simplify rules and modify games on the spot to ensure every child experiences success.
- Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with classroom teachers and therapeutic staff.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to apply for a new one).
