Role: Wire & Tapes Operator
Location: Redditch, Worcestershire
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Pay rate: Up to £16.00 per hour (dependent on skills & experience upon starting the role)
Shifts: Monday to Thursday 08:00-16:30, early finish on Fridays
Overview
Our client is a well-established manufacturing business operating within a specialist and highly technical sector. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Wire & Tapes Operator to join their production team. This role is suited to a patient, detail-oriented individual who enjoys working to tight tolerances in a precision manufacturing environment.
This is a long-term opportunity, and full, structured training will be provided over a 6-12 month period to support development within this niche industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting and operating small rolling and bonding mills to achieve highly accurate tolerances
- Operating slitting (shearing) machinery, ensuring consistent and precise output
- Working with tight-tolerance materials that require concentration, patience, and steady manual dexterity
- Accurately calculating strip lengths and quantities using a combination of Microsoft Excel and mental arithmetic
- Supporting wider production activities, primarily within rolled products, but assisting in other areas of the factory when required

Skills, experience and qualities needed:
- Calm, methodical approach with a strong focus on fine detail and precision work
- High level of mechanical understanding (assessed during the interview process)
- Commitment to a long-term role, with an understanding that training lasts approximately 6-12 months
- Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel (maths and Excel skills will be tested at interview)
- Willingness to work overtime at short notice, including evenings after 16:30 and occasional Saturday mornings
- Comfortable being trained on and operating multiple machines throughout the working day
- Previous experience within the metal manufacturing industry
- Experience working with strip or coiled metals
- Apprentice-trained background
- Prior rolling mill experience
- Previous slitting (shearing) machine experience
- Forklift truck licence
- Full, clean UK driving licence
