About the Primary 1:1 Teaching Assistant Role:
As a key member of the primary school team, you will focus on providing tailored, one-on-one support to a student. Your goal will be to create an inclusive, positive, and encouraging learning atmosphere that helps the child thrive academically and socially. You will collaborate closely with the classroom teacher to ensure all individualised educational needs are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Individualised Student Support: Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a primary school student, assisting with their learning activities and promoting independence.
Curriculum Assistance: Help with the preparation and delivery of lessons, adapting materials as needed for the student.
Tutoring & Progress Monitoring: Deliver one-on-one tutoring sessions and consistently monitor the student's academic and personal progress.
Communication & Collaboration: Maintain regular and effective communication with the classroom teacher, parents/guardians, and other relevant professionals regarding the student's development.
Pastoral Care: Offer pastoral support, encouraging positive behaviour, social skills, and emotional well-being.
Activity Support: Accompany the student on school trips, extracurricular activities, and other educational outings as required.
Skills & Experience Required:
To be successful in this Primary 1:1 Teaching Assistant role, you must demonstrate:
Essential Experience: Proven prior experience working as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant in a primary school setting is crucial.
SEN Expertise (Advantageous): Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), such as Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or behavioural challenges, is highly advantageous.
Communication Excellence: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with students, staff, and parents.
Patience & Empathy: A high degree of patience, understanding, and empathy for children with diverse learning needs.
Team & Independent Work: Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a dedicated team.
Passion for Learning: A genuine passion for supporting student's learning, development, and overall well-being.
Relevant Qualifications: Relevant qualifications or significant experience in education, childcare, or a related field are beneficial.
