A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a Primary SEN Teacher to join our partner school in Thetford. We are seeking a creative and patient educator to lead a primary-aged class of students with a variety of complex needs, including Autism (ASC) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). This role offers the chance to use your primary expertise to deliver a highly personalised curriculum that focuses on both academic progress and essential life skills. Please note: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is a mandatory requirement for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a Primary SEN classroom, delivering high-quality, differentiated lessons across the primary curriculum.
- Tailor teaching methods to meet the sensory, communication, and emotional needs of each child.
- Monitor, assess, and record student progress against individual EHCP targets and small-step learning goals.
- Manage and mentor a team of Teaching Assistants to provide a cohesive and nurturing support system for all pupils.
- Foster strong relationships with parents, carers, and multi-agency professionals to ensure a holistic approach to child development.
- Create a stimulating learning environment that promotes independence, play-based learning, and social interaction.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
- Experience teaching at the Primary level (EYFS, KS1, or KS2) within an SEN or inclusive mainstream setting.
- A strong understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and experience working with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Proficiency in using adaptive communication tools (e.g., PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables).
- Excellent classroom management skills with a gentle, patient, and positive approach.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable children.
- An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
